Badan Mhugaidh - The Plan

Badan Mhugaidh is a stalker’s cottage, stable and deer larder.  We are in a truly stunning position by the Balgy River, nestling in the shadows of Beinn Damph and looking across the loch directly to the Torridon giants Beinn Alligin and Liathach.  We plan to extend and renovate the cottage as our own home and we have planning permission to build two cottages on our land overlooking the loch.  Once built, we will offer the cottages for accommodation for up to 8 people in total, 4 in each cottage and to be let separately or as a whole house.

The cottages will be traditional in style as befits their surroundings.  But they will have every convenience necessary to ensure your comfort after days out in this wild world.  Each cottage will have 2 bedrooms, one upstairs with a shower room en-suite and one on the ground floor where there is a bathroom with separate shower.  Each cottage will have a wood-burner, purely for atmosphere of course as they are incredibly well insulated.  But we like to sit in a comfy sofa round a nice warm fire with a glass of wine watching the flames dancing in the evening so we imagine you would too!  The kitchens will have everything you might need to cook a full roast dinner if that’s your thing, or the means to “ping” if it’s not!  The cottages are separated by a spacious drying room with separate access from outside but internal access to both houses.  From experience, we think it necessary to be able to hang wet outdoor clothing and boots away from your living area; a washing machine will be available in the drying room.

We have designed the cottages to sit cosily around a south-facing courtyard but with wonderful views from each over Loch Torridon.  There is ample parking space for vehicles and boat trailers etc.

Games

Outdoors we plan to have a wood-fired oven and BBQ; there will be a croquet lawn and pétanque pitch, though we warn you competitive spirits run high!  For the more leisurely-inclined there will be a hot-tub with what has to be the most amazing view in Europe!  Don’t know about you but we can’t wait.

Garden

The Badan Mhugaidh garden will eventually produce salad leaves, vegetables and fruit which will be grown on organic principles and available to buy in season.  The Badan Mhugaidh bantams will provide your breakfast eggs.  You will be more than welcome to wander around the garden; see our composting efforts, lend a hand if you must ;0)

Green

Badan Mhugaidh is completely “off the grid”.  Our power comes from our wind turbine, solar panels and ground source heat exchange.  Our water comes fresh off the hill and our waste biodegrades naturally (so no chemicals please).  Firewood is grown on site helping us to achieve our aim of bringing as little fossil fuels on site as possible.  Our log burners help to heat the water so we encourage the aforementioned sitting in a comfy sofa round a nice warm fire with a glass of wine watching the flames dancing in the evening!  Logs are plentiful and free.

We hope to be ready in 12-15 months or earlier. Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook to receive opening offers and even the chance to win free accommodation with us!
